Fresno is the largest inland city in the state. The approximate population of the town is 490,847 as calculated in 2009. This population makes it the fifth largest city in California. Fresno having the population of 899,348 is the second-largest metropolitan area in the Central Valley. This city is blessed with art and entertainment. Tourists need to get some extra vacations to enjoy this city in full.
A Latino culture center formed in 1987 by the collaboration of teachers and artists and the motto of this center was "To make the Central Valley a flourishing place for Latino arts." This center hosts performing art as well as art exhibits. A unique event that is held every December on Van Ness Boulevard. This area including 140 homes and 300 trees is decorated with lights. This place becomes a fairyland and it all started when a young beautiful girl was dying in 1920 and everyone gathered around her lighting a candle.
Fresno is home to these unique and interesting Forestiere Underground Gardens. These gardens were constructed over the period of 40 years. This venue includes over one hundred chambers, passageways, courts and patios. This vicinity remains cool during the summer and provides warmth in winter. A marvelous Fresno Art Museum is cited at Radio Park. This museum also features Art Hop, classic films, anime as well as the international selections. Fresno art Museum also features Rhythms of Art, a ground-breaking program. Fresno composer and jazz pianist Armen Nalbandian formed this program and Fresno Poet’s Association is hosted at this place too.
United States’s oldest and largest LGBT film festival named Fresno Reel Pride is situated in the momentous Tower Theatre in Fresno. Annually every September a five-day film festival is held here whereas the special film screening is goes on throughout the year. Kearney Park is another landmark of the town. This building reflects the history and struggle of M. Theo Kearney played in the agricultural history of the San Joaquin Valley.
A well-kept and the oldest Victorian architecture of Fresno is Meux Home Museum constructed by Dr. Thomas Richard Meux in the year of 1889. This house echoes the Victorian architecture in the true spirit featuring an octagonal master bedroom, a turreted roof and intricate gingerbread ornamentation. Fresno hosts Miss California Pageant every year in June. In 2003, a new full service building was constructed by the name of Save Mart Center. It is Professional-level indoor vicinity in Fresno. Ample amount of acts are projected here ranging from The Rolling Stones to The Who to Madonna. At present also hosts Fresno State Men's & Women's Basketball teams and the Fresno Falcons hockey team of the ECHL. This arena has now become the hub of several entertainment activities and events.
Fresno is home to Famous Warnors Theatre located in downtown. B. Marcus Priteca designed this unique theatre; it is registered in National Register of Historic Places. It started operating in 1928. In the era of silent movies, the pipe organ of this theatre was used as background music. Fresno is preferred town of tourists and visitors. This city has a lot of entertainment and venues to explore.
