Palm Springs is a beautiful sandy dune amid Riverside County, California. The dessert city is home to over 42,807 by the calculation of 2000 census. Palm Springs is the ninth city that Coachella Valley is comprised of. This town is famous for its mid-century modern architecture. This fabulous art style is the result of highly creative German Bauhaus. An architect named Alexander Homes took fancy of this home construction and made homes of same kind in Coachella Valley. Alexander used the post-and-beam style along with low-pitched roofs, wide eaves, open-beamed ceilings, and having floor-to-ceiling windows that allows the home to be bright almost for the whole day. Many people like this style for their homes.
This sandy city has many sports for kids as well as families. The mountain and dessert region of Palm Springs has Golf, swimming, tennis, horseback riding and hiking to offer. All these recreation areas encompass parks and fantastic scenic beauty.
Palm Springs features this one of a kind Moorten Botanical Garden and Cactarium. This garden can surely be called a prominent landmark of this town. Moorten Botanical Garden and Cactarium proudly perched over 1 acre (4,000 m²) area. This botanical garden exhibits several kinds of rare dessert plants especially cacti. It is a free public place. Just imagine, how convenient? Visiting such a terrific place and that too free. Currently the garden displays 3,000 paradigms of numerous diverse desert plants and dessert cacti. Arizona, Baja California, California, Colorado, the Mojave desert, the Sonora desert, South Africa, arid South America, and Texas all these groups collaborated to design this magnificent garden. The exterior part of the garden is adorned by the vast collection of agaves, bombax, crested Cereus, cardoon and boojum trees, arborescent "candelabra" Euphorbia, a two-story Pachypodium, thorned Caesalpinia and Bursera, and few dozen aloes originally from southern Africa and Madagascar. "Cactarium" greenhouse particularly features cacti and succulents. Rare caudiciform variety having thickened root crowns can also be seen here. Assorted examples of Asclepiads, Aztecia, Gymnocalycium, Alstromeria, Euphorbia, and Ferocactus are decorating this greenhouse. Welwitschia mirabilis of Namibian deserts of two rare kinds are a part of this unique Cactarium greenhouse. This botanical garden owns various assorted kinds of plants which visitors may not be able to witness anywhere else altogather.
Palm Springs is also famous for it’s Aerial Tramway. This particular tramway is the world’s largest rotating aerial tramway in the world. It carries passengers close to San Jacinto Peak from the base of the Coachella Valley.
In 1997, a talented director Called Mel Damski directed beautifully filmed Still Kicking: The Fabulous Palm Springs Follies. This piece of art was also nominated for an Academy Award for Best Short Documentary.
